The Junior Champion International World Congress kicked off Nov. 18 in Taipei City, attracting more than 8,500 young business representatives and social leaders from 100 countries.
As the premier JCI event for 2012, participants will elect next year’s officers, exchange ideas on ways of creating positive change, and devise new approaches for extending the organization’s reach.
Highlights during the forum’s six-day run include the JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award, which will be presented Nov. 23 to the winner of a three-finalist business plan competition.
An international trade show is also being held on the sidelines of the event Nov. 19-22 at Taipei Expo Dome. More than 100 booths set up by firms from home and abroad will showcase products and services in biomedicine, cloud computing, green energy and entrepreneurship.
According to organizers, Taipei announced its bid to host the forum during the 2010 JCI in Osaka, Japan, with the proposal winning overwhelming support from delegate members. This is the third time for the city to host the gathering, with the previous two in 1972 and 1983.
Projections compiled by the Tourism Bureau under the ROC Ministry of Transportation and Communications predict the event will be a major marketing opportunity for Taipei. Associated activities are expected to generate NT$400 million (US$13.79 million) in tourism revenues for local merchants.
Established in 1915, JCI is a worldwide nonprofit organization made up of 170,000 members aged 18-40 dedicated to creating positive impact in over 5,000 communities worldwide. (JSM)
